Children & Family Services Care Center

 

The Children and Family Services Care Center serves urban children, youth and families in need of support and intervention to remain intact, become independent and/or reach their potential. Consistent with the agency’s mission of client empowerment and self-sufficiency, it is the goal of Children and Family Services to provide our consumers protection, safety, immediate and extended treatment, family stabilization, case management, youth counseling, parenting skills, child-care and recreational skills

 

  • Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD):

    The primary purpose is to promote and implement coordinated community based prevention strategies to address critical issues and provide a wide range of comprehensive prevention efforts designed to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse. Students are involved in a variety of structured activities during school hours to prevent involvement in risk-taking behavior and encourage academic achievement and healthy lifestyles. Students receive comprehensive prevention education in schools and community-based settings.

  • Youth Stabilization:

    Provides an array of services for up to 8 male wards of the State of Illinois between 16 and 21 years of age. Casework services, educational assistance, transitional and independent living skills training, individual and group counseling is provided to all residents. Youth are also provided with substance abuse prevention and treatment, mentoring, job readiness skills and assistance in job placement. Special activities designed to maximize cultural learning and ensure adequate recreational opportunities are a major component of the program.

  • Delinquency Prevention:

    Provides prevention services to junior high school students at risk of gang involvement. Youth offenders are diverted from further involvement in the Juvenile Justice system through counseling, recreation and other group services. Youth preparing for independence are tutored and taught basic living skills.

  • Housing Advocacy/Cash Assistance Program:

    Provides housing location, support and case assistance services to families of the Norman Class referred by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. The main objective is to reunite and assist families in securing safe permanent housing

  • Teen Parent Services:

    Provides education and employment opportunities to teen parents, 18 years and under. The focus is on the completion of high school, access to employment training and employment.

  • Extended Family Support Program:

    Provides services to relative care givers who need assistance with obtaining guardianship, opening “Child Only” grants with DHS, referral for counseling, one-time emergency cash assistance, and intensive case management. HSI works with families for approximately ninety days in rendering the above services.

  • Transitional Living Program (TLP):

    Provides community based residential services for 8 youth between the ages of 17 and 19.5. The goal of the program is to prepare youth for independence by stabilizing them in a community setting using behavioral techniques to modify youth behavior to that which will be socially acceptable. Youth receive integrated clinical, educational and prevention services as part of the program.

  • Truancy Prevention Program:

    Provides services for high school and elementary school students in Chicago Public Schools who demonstrate a pattern of chronic truancy. The goal of the program is to re-establish regular school attendance patterns through intensive case management services with the student and their family. Students receive intervention and prevention services including tutoring if needed. Parents are invited to participate in parenting skill building and counseling sessions.

  • Intact Family Services:

    Are designed to stabilize, strengthen, enhance and preserve family life by providing services that enable children to remain safely at home. Families are referred by the Department of Children and Family Services for short term (average 90-180 days) or long term (average of 12 months) services. Families receive case management services including counseling, parent skills training, housing assistance and respite care.
